Our Bambino is growing up

Colin is getting very excited for his trip to Newfoundland to meet all his loving family and momma and daddy’s friends. We are leaving for NL in 10 sleeps and are very excited.

There are some exciting things going on around here. We got Colin’s cloth diapers and they are really absorbent and super cute. They are also very comfortable for him.

We also got a new bumbo chair. Well we got it at a garage sale for 20 bucks but they retail for about 60 dollars so that was a great savings. We love making deals. Colin also loves sitting in his swing. He often falls asleep there. We are trying to get him attached to a little frog so that he can sleep on his own eventually. We also got a new stroller given to us and will be bringing it to NL so you all can see it then.

Colin is giggling much more now and daddy sure knows how to make him laugh. His most obvious new skill is intentionally grabbing things. He looks at things for a long time and then grabs it – very cute! Momma’s necklaces and hair don’t have a chance now!

Tonight we had to put away a lot of Colin’s clothes and take out bigger ones which is fun and sad all at the same time. Momma loves how Colin looks around the room for her and stops when he sees her.

Momma and Daddy are now seriously starting to save for a house with a yard for Colin and his siblings to play in. We estimate that we will be in a house in about a year.

Colin also had his first trip to the beach and his first time in the grass. We didn’t put him in the water yet because it is too cold.

And of course it was Father’s day. Colin gave daddy a fishing rod, tackle box and a photo frame for his desk at work. We had a good day with a BBQ for dinner and an outdoor concert. Colin also gave daddy a card with lots of scribbles on it.

Moving to cloth diapers

The dedication on Sunday went very well. While we were on stage, Pastor John held Colin to say a prayer and our son gave the pastor a not-so-subtle “gift”. We call it a going away present since the pastors are leaving next week.

We decided to start using cloth diapers and we’re waiting for our order of Happy Heiney diapers to arrive. We did the math and in the long run it’s a good investment… not to mention better for the environment.

Mommy and baby stayed over at her friend Nikki`s house for the weekend since Daddy was camping at Long Lake for the annual Cuboree (Cub Camp).

Some updates on the baby. Colin has started to drool a lot! He has started to grab things like his hanging toys on the play mat. His weight was 13 lbs 7 ounces yesterday. He is 11 weeks old today. He had his two month vaccinations this week. He eats a lot! Mommy is doing a fantastic job taking care of him and Colin knows he is much loved.

Baby Colin to appear in newspaper

Our photographer, Caitlin Cleveland, has asked if she could put Colin in the local newspaper “The Yellowknifer”. We told her okay and we’re excited to see her ad.

Mommy has an obsession with Robeez shoes (the ones in the banner picture). We hit the garage sales early Saturday and Sunday mornings to look for second hand ones. We found a colourful rainforest crib bedding set and mobile… so we are replacing our airplane bedding. Colin really loves the mobile and he follows the animals around with his eyes. Check out video of Colin cooing in crib below. We also got some new toys for when Colin is older.

Colin loves reading books with daddy. He has lots of books and daddy reads them all to him some nights. Colin is getting very strong. He often climbs up momma’s chest when they are in the bathtub. He is very cute and sweet!

We took Colin to his first movie at the theatre. He was great. We went to see Pixar’s UP. We enjoyed the movie and Colin ate/slept almost the whole time. Mommy covered up his ears with a hat, a blanket and her hands to protect his hearing.

We’re super excited for our trip to Newfoundland and have started making plans of what to do and see. We are thankful that Adam’s dad is going to lend us his car for our trip so that we can visit Natasha’s family. We are going to spend some time in St. John’s with family and friends and also go to Lethbridge where Natasha is from and go to Bonavista, Elliston and Trinity. We are excited to see people and to get to go shopping and eating. Of course we are most excited for our family and friends to meet Colin.

Colin is being dedicated (this is like baptism without water, basically promising to raise him as a Christian) this Sunday…stay tuned for pictures.

Momma and Baby’s trip to West Edmonton Mall

Momma was in need of some new clothes for the summer so on Friday she and Colin flew to Edmonton. He was pretty good on the plane and only started to get fussy on the descent. They arrived and got the shuttle taxi to the Mall. Colin was wide awake in the stroller the whole time and enjoyed all the sights.

Momma and her friend Nikki along with Nikki’s baby girl Winnifred went for a long walk around the neighbourhood Sunday while Daddy and Curtis went fishing with the boys. I caught a 3 lb northern pike at the Yellowknife River. These fish don’t have much meat so we threw it back… but it was really fun catching it.

Colin smiles a lot now and has started sleeping for longer periods of time during the night. A few days ago he slept from midnight to 6am. He loves taking baths with Mommy. We bought him some cute green sunglasses because the sun seems to sticking around.

Oh yeah - Happy 2 Months Colin!!
